FractureDESCRIPTIONKnown as a break of the bone, a fracture can be characterised as one of two general types: simple or compound. A simple fracture occurs when the bone breaks cleanly, without penetrating the Skin. Likewise, a compound fracture results when the broken bone protrudes out of the Skin, making the fracture much more susceptible to Infection. A "greenstick" fracture occurs in children, and like an immature stick, the bone only breaks on one side due to the elasticity of youth. A "burst" fracture occurs in the elderly, when the bone is so brittle that it cannot support its load anymore, and disintegrates. This condition is usually caused by Osteoporosis. Fractures are usually the result of a sudden blow or fall, although repetitive Stress can cause minor cracks. Osteoporosis usually causes fractures in the elderly.
