Caprylic AcidDESCRIPTIONThe health benefits of caprylic acid are largely controversial. It was popularised by Dr. William Crook (1984) for its antifungal properties. SUGGESTED INTAKEOne protocol advises a capsule of Sodium caprylate (390 mg) to be taken two or three times daily with water at mealtimes. Often, other items are recommended to be taken at the same time, including acidophilus and the herb Pau d’Arco. SAFETYNo toxicity has been reported. However, it is recommended that use of this over-the-counter product be supervised. INTERACTIONS AND CONTRA-INDICATIONSWomen should take particular caution when using caprylic acid. Use with birth control pills or antibiotics may increase risk of urinary tract and vaginal yeast Infections. Caprylic acid may also contribute to Thrush, or a yeast overgrowth in the mouth.
