A single-celled green algae, chlorella is a rich source of protein, chlorophyll, and Amino Acids. It may be effective for enhancing the Immune System, Digestive System, detoxification and healing mechanisms. It may even help promote longevity.
For prevention purposes, 3-4 g daily (15-20 tablets).
For prescription purposes, 5-6 g daily (25-30 tablets).
(1 g = 5 tablets)
Immune system health:
Chlorella can boost Immune System functions in the following ways. It can stimulate macrophages, increasing their production as well as their ingestion rate of foreign substances. Chlorella also stimulates T-lymphocytes, important for antibody immunity. (1)
Chlorella can stimulate the body?s detoxification systems. In the intestines, chlorella forms complexes with heavy metals such as cadmium, lead, and mercury, inactivating them. Chlorella can also detoxify P.C.B., ethionine, pesticides, insecticides, hydrocarbons, and radioactive substances. In the liver, chlorella enhances its ability to detoxify alcohol and enthionine. In the bowels, chlorella destroys bacteria that cause gas and odours. (2)
Wounds and Burns:
Green plant extracts can induce the growth of new Skin tissue in Wounds.
In Japan, chlorella is commonly used to treat duodenal Ulcers and Gastritis.
Chlorella may also promote growth rates in school children, as demonstrated in a study in Japan. However, positive results were only seen in the boys.
Chlorella has also been shown to lower blood pressure (3) and decrease cholesterol levels.
Mild side effects, such as Bloating, nausea, and allergic reactions may occur. Otherwise, chlorella is quite safe.
INTERACTION AND CONTRA-INDICATIONS
