Itching

DESCRIPTION

An uneasy irritation sensation in the upper surface of the Skin, itching usually results from mild stimulation of Pain receptors. Itching (pruritis) instinctively provokes scratching. Unfortunately, scratching does not usually provide a cure and, indeed, may exacerbate itching as well as cause other complications (bleeding or Infection).

Itching may be caused by numerous disorders (insect bites, poison ivy), especially Skin diseases. Skin disease (such as Eczema) is usually a sign of a systemic condition. Typically steroids are prescribed, although this merely suppresses symptoms.
