Pancreatitis

DESCRIPTION

An acute or chronic Inflammation, pancreatitis occurs when pancreatic enzymes digest pancreatic tissue - a process called autodigestion. While a viral Infection can sometimes cause acute pancreatitis, the most common cause is Alcoholism or biliary tract disease.

Some cases of pancreatitis exhibit no noticeable symptoms. When symptoms do appear, they may include a sudden and intense Pain in the stomach, Vomiting, belching of gas, hiccups, and collapse. There may also be rigidity and tenderness over the navel, Constipation, slow pulse, and jaundice.

Severe cases can lead to heart and kidney failure.
